Garmin Marine device Updates

Map Pro Gps: Garmin marine devices are designed by Garmin and can be updated to the latest software version. The most common updates are for the display of the device and for the performance of the device.

Updates to the system software for Garmin’s marine products are periodically released. Software updates are an essential element of the boat’s normal spring and winter maintenance since they keep devices operating and offer features and compatibility with new items.

Software updates do not alter preloaded charts; they only alter the operating system. To update the preloaded maps on a Garmin chart plotter, refer to Updating Marine Charts.

Backing up user data, system profiles, and switching settings (if applicable) is advised before updating the system software. Instructions are provided in the document Backing Up User Data, System Profiles, and Digital Switching Settings for Marine Devices.

Software Download Options

To get software updates, Garmin provides a few practical choices, including:

An app called Active Captain can be downloaded and updated using a tablet or Smartphone.

Using a micro/SD card, the user can update device software using the Garmin Express application that has been installed on a desktop computer. For the software update, the card is put into the chart plotter.

Access software update files for Garmin marine equipment directly from the Garmin website. A preloaded software update card from garmin.com is an alternative choice

A software update will also be applied, if one is available, to devices linked to a chart plotter via the Garmin Marine Network or NMEA 2000 network.

Garmin Express Marine Updates

For marine chart plotters, Garmin Express provides software updates. It is easy to download the software using Garmin Express. The software button will always be visible in the top right corner of the boat, but it does not mean that the chartplotter’s software is out of date. The ActiveCaptain app must be used to update devices like the Striker Plus 7 and 9 because Garmin Express software is installed on a micro/SD card. The micro/SD card is brought to the boat and put into the Chartplotter after the software has been installed on it. The software will update any linked Garmin equipment using Marine Networked or NMEA 2000 as well as the Chartplotter
